Hawaii (24-5, 13-3 Big West) shares the Big West regular-season title with UC Irvine but earned the No. 1 seed in next week’s conference tournament. Long Beach State (18-13, 12-4) is the No. 3 seed.

Aaron Valdes hit a 3 for Hawaii to put the Rainbow Warriors up 69-60 with 5:48 to go.

The 49ers’ A.J. Spencer made 1 of 2 free throws then hit a 3 to make it 69-64. Gabe Levin made two free throws and Faust hit a pair to make it 69-68.

Valdes made 1 of 2 free throws and Sai Tummala hit a jumper for Hawaii to make it 72-68 with 2:56 left.

Levin and Faust then made back-to-back layups to tie it at 72 before Hammonds game-winning free throws.

Valdes led Hawaii with 19 points and Stefan Jankovic had 14 rebounds.
