Mark Hayes, an internationally known composer, arranger and clinician, will host a two-day workshop and concert next weekend on the Big Island.

Hayes’ music is performed around the world and he has led clinics across Europe, Singapore, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, South Africa and Canada. He is a frequent guest conductor at Carnegie Hall and the Lincoln Center.

The two-day workshop will focus on the art of choral singing, through the preparation of five of his compositions from 6-9 p.m. March 11 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 12 at St. James Episcopal Church in Waimea. The pieces will be performed in a culminating concert at 3:30 p.m. March 13 at Kahilu Theatre.

Music cost is $12 and sectional rehearsals for learning notes will be offered prior to the workshop. It is important to know the music so that workshop time can focus on choral skills and musicality. Registration for the workshop will be 5:30 p.m. March 11. Cost for the workshop is $40.
