Fukushima Kids Hawaii will hold a special benefit event on March 11 to pray for children in Fukushima and the world who have been affected by March 11, 2011, disaster. The “Prayer for Fukushima 5th Anniversary of 3.11” will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. at Hawaiian Queen Coffee on Henry Street in Kailua-Kona.
The event will include a silent auction and update on Fukushima by Gen Morita and Yumi Kukuchi, as well as a dance and concert featuring performing artists Nasu Shizuno (dance); Kaiulani Trainer (soprano singer); Gen Morita (folk singer); Yumi Kikuchi (flute); and Annu Shionoya (piano). The event will be emceed by Thais Mazur, who will also recite poems.
Contributing artists for the auction include Mayumi Oda, Hiroki Morinoue and Andrea Pro, among others. A donation of at least $20 is suggested.
Fukushima Kids Hawaii is a project of Aloha-Keiki that hosts children from the island of Honshu in the Kona area. Children range in ages from 10 to 17 years of age are hosted during winter and summer vacations. In addition to being a reprieve from the tumultuous events, they come to find healing and joy in the landscape and aloha that is so much a part of Hawaii.
