Teen Wii gaming offered at library
Sponsored by Friends of the Libraries, Kona, the Kailua-Kona Public Library will offer Wii Gaming for young adults and teens from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday and from 3 to 4:30 p.m. March 23. There will be free chips and drinks and it is first come, first served. Gaming titles are appropriate for ages 13-17.

Scholarship opportunity for Kealakehe seniors
Friends of the Library – Waikoloa Region is offering the Joseph E. Spadaro Memorial Scholarship to one or more Kealakehe High School graduating seniors who plan to register as full-time students at Hawaii Community College in Hilo for either a Certificate of Achievement or an Associate in Applied Science degree in agriculture, architectural, engineering and CAD technologies, auto body repair and painting, automotive mechanics technology, carpentry, diesel mechanics, machine, welding and industrial mechanics technologies or electrical installation and maintenance technology.
The scholarship will cover tuition, fees, required books and supplies. Interested seniors should contact Mrs. Davis, Counselor at Kealakehe High School for info and an application. Applications are due to Mrs. Davis by April 8.
Friel to hold permanent position with DOCARE
The officer who has been acting as DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE), Hawaii Branch Chief for the past year and a half has been appointed permanently to the position.
DOCARE Chief Thomas Friel said, “It is my honor and privilege to announce the selection of Lino Kamakau as DOCARE’s Hawaii Island Branch Chief, effective immediately.”
Kamakau is known on Hawaii Island from his 17 years of law enforcement experience with a focus on enforcement of natural resources laws. He began his enforcement career as a Hawaii County police officer, where he served for a decade. At DOCARE Kamakau served nine years as a Conservation Resource Officer III and then six years as a DOCARE Field Supervisor. He has served as acting Branch Chief on Hawaii Island since September 2014.
VFW schedule announced
VFW Post 12122, behind Kona Locksmith off Kaiwi Street, will host several activities.
The Activities Committee meets at 3:30 Tuesday.
An onion burger dinner with salad and desert will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday for $5.
The second annual Play with a Vet Golf Tournament with gifts, prizes and a 19th hole party will be held May 21 on Armed Forces Day.
