Joseph Mattson Jr.

Joseph Bernard Mattson Jr., 72, of Waimea died Jan. 23, 2016, at his residence. Born June 6, 1943, in Honolulu, he was a rancher, vegetable farmer and a U.S. Army veteran.

Private services were held.

He is survived by wife, Leilani Ahia-Mattson of Waimea; mother, Elaine Mattson of Honolulu; daughters, Naomi (Alefosio) Silva of Honolulu, Lehua (Lanuel) Curley of Flagstaff, Ariz.; son, Joseph Mattson III of Wahiawa, Oahu; stepsons, Robert Scheper, David Scheper and Keokolo Paakonia, all of Waimea; sisters, Ululani Mattson, Norma (William) Liu, all of Honolulu; brothers, Russell Mattson of Waimea, David (Millannie) Mattson of Honolulu, Charles (Marie) Mattson of Waimanalo, Oahu, Lance (Cheryl-Ann) Mattson of Kawaihae; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Frank Mattos

Frank A. Mattos, 81, of Hilo died Feb. 7, 2016, at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired truck driver with the Department of Transportation.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Feb. 29 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 10 a.m. prayer service, followed by burial at the Alae Cemetery. The family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by daughters, Joanne (Toan) Mai of Hilo, Darlene (Scott) Martin of Modesto, Calif., son, Corey (Tammy) Mattos of Hilo; six grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joseph Wahl

Joseph Allen Wahl, 58, of Hilo died Feb. 18, 2016. Born in New Orleans, he was a registered nurse.

No services are planned. A private scattering of ashes will be held at a later date.

He is survived by daughter, Caitlin Wahl of Portland Ore.; sister, Adrienne Namohala of Hilo; sister, Leigh Humphrey of El Centro Calif.; two aunts; numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Wolfe

Mary Louise Wolfe, 81, of Kailua-Kona died Feb. 14, 2016. Born April 12, 1934, in Seattle, she worked as a legal secretary and was a homemaker.

She is survived by daughters, Sherrie (Gary) Buehler of Washington, Debbie (Ronald) Cawthon of Hawaii; brothers, Harry (Regina) Taylor of Washington, Richard Taylor of South Carolina; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Tereza Horan

Tereza “Cris” Cristina Horan, 66, of Waikoloa died Feb. 13, 2016, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born Nov. 23, 1949, in Recife, Brazil, she was a homemaker and a former housekeeper for Kona Village Resort.

She is survived by husband, Jerry Horan; daughter, Jessica (Harrison) Weeks; Joshua Horan, all of Waikoloa; four grandchildren.

Jacob Freebairn

Jacob Kawaa Freebairn, 38, of Hawaii Island died Feb. 7, 2016, at Kona Community Hospital. Born December 6, 1977, in Kailua, Oahu, he was a landscaper, sous chef and member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Private services were held.

He is survived by son, Xavier Freebairn-Lopes of Standish, Maine; parents, Rebecca and Paul Freebairn of Laie, Oahu; brothers, Abraham (Debbie) Freebairn of Olathe, Kan., Kevin Freebairn of California, Joseph (Natalie) Freebairn of Lafayette, La., Shawn Freebairn of Salt Lake City, Utah; sisters, Lani (Korban) Blackburn of Monterey, Calif.; Miri (Adrian) Baron of Overland Park, Kan., Anita Chai of Las Vegas, Tami (Jason) King of Parker, Colo.; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Torao Matsumoto

Torao Matsumoto, 95, of Hilo died Feb. 2, 2016, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Hilo, he was a retired commercial fisherman, a World War II Army veteran.

Private services were held. Family requests no flowers and no monetary gifts.

He is survived by wife, Matsue Matsumoto of Hilo; daughters, Edna Yee of Waimea, Donna Matsumoto of Hilo, Jessica (Dennis) Hashimoto of Honolulu; brother, Sueo Matsumoto of Puna; sister, Kazue Matsumoto of Hilo; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
