Drought is topic at WCA meeting
With the prospect of an extended El Nino drought, potable water issues and opportunities for Waimea and North Hawaii will top the agenda for Waimea Community Association’s 5:15 p.m. Thursday town meeting in the Waimea School cafeteria. Also discussed will be the exemplary medical care outreach by Waimea’s Mango Medical Foundation health care team.
Attendees are encouraged to contribute to the Waimea food pantry with cash, check or nonperishable, not-expired food items.

Freemasons meet Wednesday

Kathe makes dean’s list at Clemson
John Galt Kathe of Kailua-Kona has been named to the dean’s list at Clemson University for the fall semester.
Kathe is majoring in production studies in performing arts. To be named to the dean’s list, a student must achieve a grade-point average between 3.50 and 3.99 on a 4.0 scale.
NCL plans
to sell Polynesian Adventure Tours
Miami-based Norwegian Cruise Lines has announced its intent to sell Polynesian Adventure Tours and Luau Kalamaku to Honolulu-based Roberts Hawaii. The transaction has not yet closed, and remains subject to Public Utilities Commission review and approval.
Local students serve in ministries through Azusa Pacific
Spencer Todd, Elijah Cacal and Aidan Alcos, all of Kailua-Kona with undeclared majors, served in local ministries during the fall 2015 semester.
Throughout the year, students have numerous opportunities to build relationships in the city of Azusa, Los Angeles and Mexico. From assisting in food banks to providing after school tutoring and mentoring, the Center for Student Action at Azusa Pacific mobilizes and educates students toward responsible and transformational service locally and globally through a collaborative network of offices and programs.
Senior Roundtable Hui meets
The Senior Roundtable Hui will meet Wednesday to discuss attendees’ aging questions. The monthly meeting will now be held from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on the first Monday of each month at the Pink Mocha Cafe above Home Depot. Attendees should bring their questions about aging and give ideas for future topics.
There is no charge for the meeting, unless attendees choose to purchase coffee.

Ruddle named cultural resource program manager
for OMKM
The Office of Mauna Kea Management, charged with the management of approximately 12,000 acres of state-owned land on Mauna Kea, has hired Lukela Ruddle as its cultural resource program manager.
In her new position, Ruddle’s responsibilities include assisting Kahu Ku Mauna with project reviews, policy development, community consultation and implementation of the comprehensive management plan, in particular, the Cultural Resources Management Plan. Ruddle will also initiate an educational campaign for cultural landscape preservation and a collection of the traditional, contemporary, and customary cultural practices on Mauna Kea.
For 14 years, Lukela served as an Office of Hawaiian Affairs trustee aide to Hannah Kihalani Springer and as OHA’s East Hawaii Community Resource Coordinator. Lukela also collaborated in drafting legislation, securing capital improvements funds and expanding programs to directly advance OHA beneficiaries.
