Elaine Watai

Elaine “Aunty Elaine” Pualani Watai, 77, of Kailua-Kona died Feb. 4, 2016, at Kaiser Moanalua Medical Center. Born May 23, 1938, in Honolulu, she was a retired youth specialist for the Salvation Army Intervention Services, member of the Kona Crime Prevention Committee, Alu Like, Kealakehe Neighborhood Watch, Youth Crime Watch of Kealakehe, Lea Lea Na Opio Youth Group, Purple Majesties Red Hat Society, a one time Grand Marshall of the Kailua-Kona Christmas Parade, head bartender and luau coordinator at the former Keauhou Beach Hotel and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. p.m. Feb. 26 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kailua-Kona for a wake service. Friends may also call at 7:30 a.m. Feb. 27 at the church for a service, followed by burial at 9 a.m. at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery. The family requests casual attire be worn and flowers are welcome.

She is survived by daughters, Paula Jelsma of Kailua-Kona, Shiloah (Blane) Kenolio of Hilo; hanai daughters, Florence (Dave) Schamehorn of Ohio, Kaleinani Balanon of Aiea, Oahu; sons, Benjamin (Imelda) Watai, Walter (Lavaina) Watai, and Jerry (Arlene) Watai, all of Kailua-Kona; sisters, Frances (Tommy) Salvador of Honolulu, Rose Williams of Sacramento, Calif.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Carol Amaral

Carol Jean Amaral, 69, of Naalehu died Feb. 7, 2016, at Ka’u Hospital. Born March 6, 1946, in Pahala, she was a cafeteria worker for Naalehu Elementary School, factory worker for Mac Farms, cafeteria cook for Kilauea Military Camp, educational assistant for Pahala Elementary School, receptionist for Ka’u Family Health Center, cook for Hana Hou restaurant, a babysitter, member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Naalehu, the Ka’u Roping and Riding Association, and the Naalehu Senior Citizens.

Friends may call at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 27 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Naalehu for a 10 a.m. Mass. Burial will follow at Naalehu Community Cemetery. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by daughters, Paula (Felix) Tailon, Tammy (Ralph) Kaapana, both of Naalehu; brother, Robert (Colleen) Pestano of Hilo; sisters, Angeline Moniz, Mary Apo, both of Hilo, Aileen (Robert) Mattos of Ocean View; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Margaret Blackmer

Margaret Elizabeth Blackmer, 90, of Kurtistown died Jan. 22, 2016, at home. Born March 19, 1925, in San Bernardino, Calif., she worked as a teacher for various schools in Hilo for the State Department of Education and retired from Hilo Union School.

Friends may call at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 27 at Hilo Missionary Church for a 4:30 p.m. service. A graveside urn committal will be at noon Feb. 29 at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Family requests aloha attire be worn. Flowers are welcome.

She is survived by daughter, Dania Blackmer of Volcano; brother, Warren Perry of San Diego; nephews; nieces; two grandchildren, one great-granddaughter.

Jon Hayashi

Jon Keiji Hayashi, 46, of Hilo died Feb. 5, 2016, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Nov. 20, 1969, in Hilo he worked for T H Y &Associates and was a scoutmaster for Higashi Hongwanji Boy Scouts Troop 78.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. Feb. 27 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for an 11 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no monetary gifts or flowers.

He is survived by mother, Misae Hayashi of Hilo; brother, Gary (Kelly) Hayashi of Huachuca City, Ariz.; sister, Kristine (Brice) Takata of Hilo; a niece, two nephews, aunts, and cousins.

Sheriann “Shaggy Boo” Kuuipo Soares, 38, of Papaikou died Jan. 19, 2016, at home. Born Nov. 1, 1977, in Hilo, she was a caregiver.

Rosemarie Lehua Wilson, 64, of Kurtistown died Feb. 15, 2016, at home. Born Aug. 30, 1951, in Honolulu, she was a hairdresser and an elder of Kurtistown Assembly of God Church.

Albert Gonsalves

Albert Mookini Gonsalves, 18, of Keaau died Feb. 13, 2016. He was born Aug. 7, 2016, in Hilo.

Donavan Emillio Sadino, 35, of Naalehu died Jan. 26, 2016. He was born June 28, 1980, in Hilo.
