Mark Schmer

Mark Schmer, 65, of Kailua-Kona, died Jan. 30, 2016. Born Nov. 16, 1950, in Los Angeles, he worked as an exterminator and as a general laborer in construction until retirement.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Feb. 25 at West Hawaii Veteran’s Cemetery for a service. Condolences may be posted at ballardfamilymortuaries.com.

He is survived by daughter, Brianne Schmer of California; brothers, Wayne (Naomi) Schmer of Kailua-Kona, Donny (Ruby) Schmer of Georgia; sister, Sharon Sussan of Washington; two grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Yaeko Ohata

Yaeko Ohata, 91, of Kainaliu died Jan. 1, 2016, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Aug. 8, 1924, in Volcano, she was a visitor information personnel worker for the airport division and member of the Hiroshima Kenjin Kai, Kainaliu Makai Kumiai, Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple, Buddhist Women’s Association and Kona Hongwanji Ikebana.

Private services were held.

She is survived by daughter, Jo Ann Kay of Kainaliu; sons, Alvin Ohata of San Dimas, Calif., Neal Ohata of Kainaliu; sister, Margaret Okano of Keaau, brother, Charles Okano of Keaau; two grandchildren; four great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
