No new cases of dengue fever were confirmed over the weekend on the Big Island, state health officials reported Monday afternoon.
Since the start of the outbreak on Sept. 11, 259 cases of the mosquito-borne virus have been confirmed on the Big Island. Of those cases, 234 are island residents and 25 are visitors. Children account for 46 of the cases.
Just one of the confirmed cases remains potentially infectious to mosquitoes, health officials said.
As of Monday, 1,287 reported potential cases have been excluded based on test results and/or not meeting case criteria.
