Ohana Day, a family event to honor the closing of the traditional makahiki season, is Saturday at Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park.
The event will take place at Aiopio Fishtrap at Honokohau Beach from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The celebration will begin with Hawaiian protocol to honor and appreciate the makahiki season. This is a free event for all.
There will be canoe rides, a turtle information station, a station about volcano hazards by David Carvalho from the Center for the Study of Active Volcanoes, as well as an activity about anchialine pools and the native animals that live in them.
The Na Pea team (Ala Kahakai NHT Blue Trail Program) will conduct a blessing for a new outrigger waa (canoe) that will be used for park projects.
