Five- to 8-foot waves are expected through 6 p.m. Thursday for the island’s southern, eastern and northern coasts, according to Honolulu-based National Weather Service forecasters. The surf is being fueled by strong trade winds that are creating choppy and rough conditions.
The service categorized the surf’s impact as “moderate,” cautioning the public to be expect strong breaking waves, shore break and strong longshore and rip currents that can make swimming dangerous.
