A man is under investigation after allegedly injuring his passenger Saturday night while driving under the influence of an intoxicant.

A man is under investigation after allegedly injuring his passenger Saturday night while driving under the influence of an intoxicant.

Prommat Chuajai, 42, Kailua-Kona, was driving south on Queen Kaahumanu Highway when he turned right onto Palani Road. He lost control of the BMW Z4 he was driving, crossed the median and rolled the vehicle. His passenger, a 41-year-old man from Kailua-Kona, was seriously injured in the accident, said Chris Loos, media relations for the department.

The incident was reported at 2:03 a.m. Saturday.

Chuajai was arrested at 4:07 a.m. on suspicion of second-degree negligent injury, driving under the influence of an intoxicant and driving without insurance.
