Auntie’s Angels will hold its Soup Kitchen ‘n’ Pantry Saturday, Feb. 20 at Hualalai Elderly Housing. The charity is seeking fresh produce, any types of fruits and vegetables to share with kupuna. Paper products and personal hygiene items can also be dropped off by calling Jan at 329-7897

Degree prep workshop planned at Palamanui

A degree preparation workshop is planned from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18 at Hawaii Community College – Palamanui in Room A-106. Attendees will earn which degrees are offered in West Hawaii, the necessary steps to move forward, key deadlines, methods of program delivery and what it takes to be a successful student.

Heart health talk includes free blood pressure screenings

The Kona Hospital Foundation will hold its quarterly Informational Lecture Series from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Kona Community Hospital, Administration Building Conference Rooms 2 and 3. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Rich McDowell, KCH medical director, will discuss heart disease, risk factors and how to keep your heart healthy. There will be time for questions and answers following the presentation.

Prior to the presentation, hospital clinical staff will offer free blood pressure screenings from 6 to 6:30 p.m. There will also be handouts and information on heart disease.

Kealakehe High to host Career and Job Expo

Kealakehe High School will host a Career and Job Expo from 2-5 p.m. Thursday in the school gymnasium.

How to avoid Medicare scams

The public is invited to the second in a series of six monthly presentations titled “Don’t Get Scammed.” The talks are given by volunteers of Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP Hawaii), in partnership with Regency at Hualalai and are free.

The class will be from 9:30 to 10:30 p.m. Thursday at the Regency at Hualalai, 75-181 Hualalai Road.

Attendees will learn how to protect themselves and their loved ones from Medical ID theft, fraud and scams and will explain the basics of Medicare and Advantage Plans. It will show how to read medical statements like you would a bank or credit card statement for errors and suspicious billing and how to report questionable charges or possible fraud.

ADHD workshop offered free to teachers

Hawaii Learning Resource will offer a free teacher workshop, “Instructional Tools, Accommodations and Interventions that Work: Supporting the Behavioral Needs of Students with ADHD in the General Education Classroom” from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Honokaa Elementary School.

This workshop will provide general education teachers with tools to support students with behavioral needs. Educators of all grade levels are welcome. The workshop will be presented by Sara Cook, assistant professor in the Department of Special Education at UH-Manoa and Cory Cook, a school-based behavioral health specialist.

Ronald McDonald to appear at library

McDonald’s Restaurants of Hawaii presents “Get Moving with Ronald McDonald” at 10 a.m. Thursday. The engaging and entertaining show inspires kids to get active. This program is free and open to the public. It is intended for children ages 3 to 10.
