The Waipio Valley Lookout will be closed Friday to allow Department of Health personnel to spray the area for mosquitoes amid the ongoing dengue fever outbreak.

The Waipio Valley Lookout will be closed Friday to allow Department of Health personnel to spray the area for mosquitoes amid the ongoing dengue fever outbreak.

The closure began at 8 a.m. and the park should reopen at noon, weather permitting, according to Hawaii County Civil Defense.

Meanwhile, the valley area remains closed to visitors, as do Hookena and Milolii beach parks.

Two more cases of dengue fever were confirmed on the Big Island Thursday bringing the total case count to 254, according to the state Department of Health. The Friday update will be issued t 1 p.m.
