From Feb. 1 through 7, Hawaii Island police arrested 21 motorists for suspected driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.

From Feb. 1 through 7, Hawaii Island police arrested 21 motorists for suspected driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.

Kona officers arrested 10 of the motorists while South Hilo officers arrested five and South Kohala officers three. Two motorists were arrested in the North Hilo District and one in the Puna District.

So far this year, there have been 112 DUI arrests compared with 100 during the same period last year, an increase of 12 percent.

There have been 130 major accidents so far this year compared with 136 during the same period last year, a decrease of 4.4 percent.

So far this year, there has been one fatality on Hawaii Island compared with one during the same period last year.
