One case of dengue fever was confirmed on the Big Island Friday, bringing the total confirmed case count to 242.
As of Friday afternoon, just two of the confirmed cases remained potentially infectious to mosquitoes. The last onset of illness was Jan. 21.
Of the 242 confirmed cases, 218 are Hawaii Island residents and 24 are visitors. Forty-five have been children younger than age 18, according to the state Department of Health.
Dengue is a virus that is transmitted from an infected person to a mosquito, which can then infect another person.
