Dengue fever case count holds at 237

No new cases of dengue fever were identified Tuesday on the Big Island, state health officials report.

As of Tuesday afternoon, 237 cases had been confirmed. Currently, as many as three of the confirmed cases to date remain potentially infectious to mosquitoes.

Since the outbreak began last fall, health officials have confirmed 237 cases of dengue fever on the state’s southern-most island. Of those cases, 214 are Hawaii Island residents and 23 are visitors. Forty-four have been children.

Hookena and Milolii beach parks, as well as the Waipio Valley area, remain closed.
