KEALAKEKUA — Two people are in custody in connection with a Jan. 20 accident in Ocean View that killed Ling Oniel.
Jose Guadelupe-Rodriguez, 22, of Ocean View, was arrested Sunday on suspicion of first-degree negligent homicide and failure to remain at the scene of an accident involving bodily injury.
Tawnee Kauanoe Lee, 23, Ocean View, was arrested on suspicion of failure to remain at the scene of an accident involving bodily injury.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing, said spokeswoman Chris Loos of the Hawaii Police Department.
Police said at the time that a vehicle was driving north on Paradise Parkway when it failed to yield the right of way at the intersection with Kona Drive and collided with Oniel, who had been traveling west on Kona Drive on a black moped.
The two were also arrested on warrants for not showing up in court.
Guadelupe-Rodriguez was wanted for two incidents in October, both of which charge him with driving without a license and driving without no-fault insurance. His total punishment was 20 days in jail, with one day concurrent, $554 in fines and costs and a driver’s license suspension of 90 days.
Lee was wanted on two contempt of court warrants. One was relating to an Aug. 5 charge alleging driving without a valid license and the other was failing to use a passenger restraint on a child less than 4 years old. In that case, she pleaded no contest, but had not completed her 14 hours of community service or the child restraint safety class.
The second count alleged driving with an improper license and driving without motor vehicle insurance, for which she received a day in jail, $554 in fines and a license suspension for 90 days.
