The state Department of Health on Thursday identified six new cases of dengue fever on the Big Island.
As many as three of the six new cases remain potentially infectious to mosquitoes, officials said.
Of the 230 confirmed cases, 208 are Hawaii Island residents and 22 are visitors. Forty-two of the cases have occurred in children younger than age 18, according to the state Department of Health. The last onset of illness was Jan. 16.
Since the start of the outbreak, 962 reported potential cases have been excluded based on test results and/or not meeting case criteria.
Dengue is a virus that is transmitted from an infected person to a mosquito, which can then infect another person.
