Army officials are opening the Keamuku Maneuver Area for bird hunting Jan. 23 and 24.

Army officials are opening the Keamuku Maneuver Area for bird hunting Jan. 23 and 24.

The area will be open for shotgun hunting of birds only, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. All hunters must check in and check out at one of the Army check-in stations at Old Saddle Road Gate, across from the Mauna Kea State Park entrance, at mile marker 49.5 gate on Daniel K. Inouye Highway, approximately one and a half miles from Mamalahoa Highway or at Gate 10 near mile marker 53 on Old Saddle Road, one mile from Mamalahoa Highway.

Hunters must be out of all hunting areas by 6 p.m. each day. Use of shotgun slugs is not permitted.

Access to the Keamuku training area is by foot only, hunters should park in designated parking areas.

Unless otherwise specified, all bird hunting activity at Pohakuloa Training Area follows state regulations.
