No additional cases of dengue fever were confirmed on the Big Island Wednesday, health officials report.
Of the 224 confirmed cases, 202 are Hawaii Island residents and 22 are visitors. Forty-two of the cases have occurred in children younger than age 18, according to the state Department of Health. The last onset of illness was Jan. 8.
State health officials say none of individuals remain potentially infectious to mosquitoes.
Since the start of the outbreak, 938 reported potential cases have been excluded based on test results and/or not meeting case criteria.
Dengue is a virus that is transmitted from an infected person to a mosquito, which can then infect another person.
