Get dressed for a Star Wars themed ninth annual CommunityCares event Saturday at the Kona International Market.

Performances by PonchoMan, DJ Tapedek, Binti Bailey, Sebrina Barron, and a Floorox Star Wars Dance showcase will entertain people and special guest Dr. Clif Arrington will speak about chelation and cancer.

Photo and food booths will be on hand as will fantasy makeup and nails stations, henna body art, massages, hair cuts and a stilt walker to generate support for the local, all volunteer, nonprofit group that raises funds and awareness against domestic violence and provides wigs, head coverings and information to our local cancer community.

Money raised from the booths will help provide wigs, hats, turbans and head wraps for our the nonprofit as well as daily needs packets to the domestic abuse shelter.

The event runs from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at 74-5533 Luhia St.

Whale watch supports West Hawaii Community Health Center

West Hawaii Community Health Center will hold its third annual benefit whale watch from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Sunday and Feb. 14. Checkin is at noon at Kawaihae Harbor.

Proceeds from the two-hour whale watch aboard the Ocean Sports catamaran will support the health center’s mission to make quality, comprehensive and integrated health services accessible to all regardless of income.

Grammy and multiple Na Hoku Hanohano award winning slack-key guitarist, composer and recording artist John Keawe will perform on board.

Tickets are $100 per person and include lunch, beverages, and homemade chocolate chip cookies.

AARP driving class offered

Kona Palisades Association is sponsoring an AARP Smart Driver class at 1 p.m. Jan. 25 at the Palisades Recreation Center on lower Kaiminani Drive.

This class is geared toward the older driver. It does not include driving or written tests, only informative quizzes. It covers hearing, eye sight, reflexes, safety rules, road rage, rules of the road, problems at intersections, drinking and driving.

Participants might receive a discount on their insurance.

Kona Brewing Co. beer available in Brazil

Craft beer enthusiasts in Brazil are saying “oi” to Hawaii’s favorite craft beer. This month, Kona Brewing Co.’s Longboard Island Lager and Big Wave Golden Ale became available in Brazil.

“Brazil is the third largest beer market in the world, but craft beer is just taking off there. It’s really exciting for me as a brewer because I love introducing people to beers that we put so much time, care and aloha into crafting.
