Tibetan Buddist teacher, Anam Thubten, will return to Kohala to offer a public lecture at Kohala Village Hub in Hawi at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
Suggested donations are from $10 to $20.
A two-day teaching and meditation retreat will be held at a private retreat in Hawi from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Thubten grew up in eastern Tibet and at an early age began to practice the Nyingma tradition Tibetan Buddhism. He has lived in the United States over 20 years and is the author of many books and articles in English, including “The Magic of Awareness” and “No Self, No Problem.”
The event is put on by the nonprofit Dharmata Foundation.
In his visits to Kohala, Thubten has developed a strong and warm-hearted connection with the people of the island and has met new friends from diverse backgrounds and religious traditions.
Thubten was initially invited to teach in Kapaau in 2007 and returns every year. Although he was trained deeply in Tibetan Buddhist traditions, his wisdom and humor on how to cultivate courage, compassion and profound dimensions of awareness in life is essential to every religious and philosophical tradition. In his visits, Thubten maintains a close contact to the Kohala community with many people who travel to visit him at lectures in L.A. and the Bay Area.
Suggested cost for the retreat, $150.
