All-male classic ballet company “Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo” – the original men in frocks — takes the stage Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Kahilu Theatre in Waimea.
“The Trocks” are artful parodists, illuminating the most gripping classical ballets via a wink and smile and the occasional well-placed shtick. Their sendups of ballet conventions are rendered with such love and energy that the comedy almost masks some seriously awesome dancing.
Kahilu Theatre is expecting a sellout crowd for this much-anticipated dance company, that will feature audience favorites “Swan Lake,” Don Quixote” and “Les Sylphides” among other pieces in a full evening presentation with two intermissions.
The Trocks will also give a Performance Ballet Master Class at 6 p.m. Monday. The class will provide a deep grounding in performance ballet and is geared for intermediate to advanced dancers. The cost is $10; reservations are available online.
The Kahilu Theatre performance is made possible by sponsorship from Kate Bell and Tom Blackburn, and the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel. Doors open at 6 p.m. for evening shows, with food and beverages available for sale.
The Voyager Exhibit is currently showing in the Kahilu Galleries, including an updated map of Hokulea’s worldwide voyage.
Tickets for Tuesday’s show range from $20 to $85 and can be purchased online at www.kahilutheatre.org, by calling 885-6868, or at the Kahilu Theatre Box Office in Waimea from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.
