The largest single landowner of Waipio Valley acreage is putting its holdings on the market.
The Bishop Museum in Honolulu, which owns 70 percent of the valley, confirmed Friday with Pacific Business News that it plans to sell the land, which is valued at about $10 million.
In addition to its 537 acres in Waipio Valley, the museum also plans to sell its 15-acre Amy B.H. Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden in Kealakekua. The property was bequeathed to the museum by Greenwell in 1974.
Museum president and CEO Blair Collis told PBN the decision to sell was part of a new operating model that will place more focus on work and outreach at the main Oahu center, as well as expand the current staff.
There is no deadline for the sale of the properties.
