Donkey Mill Art Center will host a series of art-related workshops for adults and teens starting this month.

“Ceramics: Surface Decoration with Jason Walker” runs 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays through Jan. 30. In this workshops, participants will learn to create detailed patterns, images and visual effects on porcelain surfaces using underglazes, brush “drawing” and sgraffito carving techniques. Cost is $145 for Donkey Mill members and $180 for nonmembers, plus a $45 supply fee.

“Ceramics: Guided Open Studio with Claire Seastone” runs 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursdays through Feb. 18. This class is for students who have some experience with clay and are capable of working independently with one-on-one guidance from the instructor as needed. Cost is $145 for members and $180 for nonmembers, plus a $45 supply fee.

“Professional Development: The Smart Artist with Amber Aguirre” will be held Jan. 16 from 1 to 4 p.m. In this workshop, participants will learn essential business skills for artists, how to enter juried shows, photograph and document your work and become organized at record keeping. Cost is $45 for members and $65 for nonmembers.

“Family Workshop: Terracotta Tiles with Jason Walker” will be held 2 to 4 p.m. Jan. 16. In the class, participants will design and decorate their own tile with their child using colorful glazes and surface treatments. Parent and child will decide on design, sketch it out, and work together to create a tile. Cost is $20 for members and $35 for nonmembers. Cost includes supplies.

“Architectural Ceramics with Peter Durst” will be held 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays starting Jan. 19 and continuing through March 22. In this workshop, participants will construct houses, boats, water towers and arches, both on a large and small scale, using the tools and techniques of slab roller, extruder and wheel. Cost is $340 for members and $400 for nonmembers. The first bag of clay will cost $45.

“Beginners Clay Class with Erik Omundson,” geared toward students ages 13 to 17, will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Jan. 23. In this class, teens will learn to investigate various forms to understand how things are constructed and engineered, using hand building techniques like clay coiling and slab building. Cost is $35.

“Indigo Open Studio with Linda Meyer” will also be held Jan. 23 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This class is geared for teens interested in playful experimentation with color and textiles. Shibori is a traditional Japanese method of fabric dying, with endless ways to create intriguing visual effects. Cost is $15, plus a $5 supply fee.

“Exploring Clay with Jim Neupert” will be held 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Mondays starting Jan. 25 through March 7. This class, geared toward children ages 7 to 12, provides students an opportunity to explore various ways of self expression through clay through hand building techniques and wheel processes. Cost is $100 for members and $125 for nonmembers, plus a $15 supply fee.
