Committee on Status of Women meets Friday
The Hawaii County Committee on the Status of Women invites all interested persons to attend its next meeting at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Office of the Prosecuting Attorney, 655 Kilauea Ave., in Hilo, and video conference at the West Hawaii Civil Center’s Mayor’s Office Conference Room.
Mauna Kea Quilters meets
Mauna Kea Quilters meets from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday in the meeting room of the Thelma Parker Memorial Library in Waimea. The gathering includes a business meeting, show and tell and sharing of ideas techniques.
Mauna Kea Quilters, started in 1997, is a group of patchwork quilters who enjoy sharing their love of quilting with others.
The group donates quilts to help raise money for organizations such as Malaai Culinary Garden at Waimea Middle School and Relay for Life. It has also provided quilts to police and fire departments and North Hawaii Community Hospital for those in need.

Korean War Veterans Association meets
There will be a meeting of the Korean War Veterans Association of West Hawaii Chapter 279 at 10 a.m. Saturday at the VFW meeting hall, 74-5543 Kaiwi St., Suite 185A behind Kona Locksmith at the corner of Kaiwi Street and Pawai Place.
Membership is open to anyone who has seen honorable service in any of the Armed Forces of the United States, defined as Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard if said service was within Korea including territorial waters and airspace at any time Sept. 3, 1945 to the present, or said service was outside of Korea June 25, 1950 to Jan. 31, 1955.
Associate members are also welcome.

Peace dances planned Sunday
Dances of Universal Peace will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at New Thought Center in Kealakekua.

Blood drives planned
Several blood drives are planned throughout West Hawaii in January, which is National Blood Donor Month. Blood is needed all year long by Hawaii’s patients and only comes from volunteer blood donors.
Donors must be in good health, be 18 years of age or older (17 with signed Blood Bank of Hawaii parent/legal guardian consent form), weigh 110 pounds or more and bring a valid photo ID with date of birth.

Blood may be given from 11:15 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Monday or from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 13 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Kona Hawaii Stake, 75-230 Kalani St. Blood may also be donated from 8 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Jan. 12 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Waimea Hawaii Ward, 65-1168 Kapiolani Road.
