It’s a new year and a new baby for the Davis ohana.

It’s a new year and a new baby for the Davis ohana.

Waimea residents Joyce and Chris Davis welcomed West Hawaii’s first baby of 2016 Friday afternoon at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Titan Kaiolohia Davis, a healthy baby boy, was born at 4:39 p.m.

“We’re finally complete,” Joyce said.

Born in time to enjoy the first sunset of 2016, Titan weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces, and measured 19 inches in length. He will be looked over by older brother, Kalani Akina, 5.

“He is so going to be excited when he sees him,” she said.

Titan came into the world about two weeks early, Joyce said. His paternal grandparents are Mark and Beverly Carriaga; his maternal grandmother is Mercedes Lapenia.

“Oh my gosh, it’s amazing. I didn’t even plan this; I didn’t know he was going to be (born) today (New Year’s Day),” Joyce said from the Waimea hospital. “He’s just like his mom — he came out with a bang.”

The Big Island’s first baby of the New Year was born at 3 a.m. at Hilo Medical Center, said hospital spokeswoman Elena Cabatu. She had no additional information about the bundle of joy, including the baby’s gender, as of Friday afternoon.

As of about 6 p.m., no babies had been born at Kona Community Hospital.
