A high surf advisory remains posted for east-facing shores of the Big Island through 6 p.m. today.

Wave heights of 6 to 9 feet are expected along the Big Island’s northern, southern and eastern coasts during the morning, the National Weather Service said. The surf is forecast to drop to 5 to 8 feet by the afternoon.

Advisory level surf is expected to return over the weekend. A moderate northwest swell is forecast to arrive later in the weekend and may bring advisory level surf to north-facing shores.
