A high surf advisory has been extended for east-facing shores of the Big Island through Sunday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Honolulu.
Wave heights of 8 to 11 feet are forecast through 6 p.m. that day along the island’s northern, eastern and southern coasts, forecasters said.
Forecasters categorized the surf’s impact as “moderate,” cautioning of strong breaking waves, shore break and longshore and rip currents that can make swimming dangerous. Beachgoers are advised to heed all advice given by ocean safety officials.
