The Volcano Art Center’s Hula Kahiko series continues at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with a performance by Na Wai Iwi Ola under the direction of kumu hula Keala Ching.

Na Wai Iwi Ola Foundation is based in Kailua-Kona, and was founded to perpetuate the Hawaiian culture and practices through hula protocol and ceremonies, the use and study of the Hawaiian language and by embracing the stories of kupuna past, present and future.

This performance is part of a year-round series sponsored by the Volcano Art Center. For the series, hula halau from across Hawaii are invited to perform each month in a one-of-a-kind outdoor setting at the kahua hula (platform) in the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. These performances are presented authentically in an outdoor setting, rain or shine, without electronic amplification. Audience members are encouraged to bring sun/rain gear and sitting mats.

In conjunction with the performance, the public is invited to join hula practitioner Haamauliola Aiona (Halau O Ka Ua Kani Lehua member and Ke Kula Nawahiokalaniopuu faculty) on the lanai of the Volcano Art Gallery from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. as she shares “Na Mea Hula” (all things hula).

Both events are free, however, park entrance fees apply.
