Roth continues on AIA board

Shaun Roth, AIA of Roth Kimura LLP, will continue as Hawaii Island section director for the 2016 board of directors of the American Institute of Architects, Honolulu Chapter.

The board serves the interests of the approximately 800 architects, associate members and allied design professionals on Oahu, Kauai and Hawaii Island. Their term begins Jan. 1 and concludes Dec. 31, 2016. A 2016 kick-off and celebration with the new Board of Directors will be held on Thursday, Jan. 21 at the Center for Architecture.

BISAC raises $400 for United Way

The Big Island Substance Abuse Council completed its annual employee campaign to raise monies for Hawaii Island United Way.

It held a Western-themed event with line dancing, a roping exhibition, and a paniolo-inspired meal and raised $400 for Hawaii Island United Way.

Nominations sought for KVBID board

The Kailua Village Business Improvement District is seeking eligible candidates who wish to serve on its 17-member board of directors. Thirteen of the 17 board seats are elected by the fee simple owners or lessees of land within the Kailua Village Business Improvement District.

Nine board seats are opening for a two-year term and will be elected at the upcoming KVBID annual meeting in March. Six of the nine seats are open in the fee simple owners/lessees of land category and three seats are available in the commercial tenant category. To be eligible, board applicants must own or lease land within district boundaries or lease commercial space within the district.

A board of directors candidate application form is available online at www.historickailuavillage.com. All forms must be submitted no later than Jan. 18 to kailuavillage@gmail.com. A brief resume/statement of interest should be included.

Meditation class offered

Gavin Harrison will offer “Teachings of Awakening,” a sitting and walking meditation class from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

Groups are nondenominational and open to all. Experienced and beginning meditators are welcome. Meditation guidance willbe offered. Attendees should bring a cushion; chairs will be available. Donations are accepted.

Winter solstice celebration Sunday

The Unitarian Universalists of West Hawaii invite the public to celebrate the winter solstice with music, song, candlelight and community beginning at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Sadie Seymour Botanical Garden at the Kona Outdoor Circle, 76-6280 Kuakini Highway, Kailua-Kona. A potluck will follow. Bring a dish to share and own plate, cup and utensils.
