Korean War Veterans Association of West Hawaii Chapter 279 will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars meeting hall, 74-5543 Kaiwi St., Suite 185a, Kailua-Kona.
Membership is open to any person who has seen honorable service in the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard, if said service was within Korea including territorial waters and airspace at any time from Sept. 3, 1945, to the present, or said service was outside of Korea from June 25, 1950, to Jan. 31, 1955. Associate members are also welcome.

Palace remembers Kamehameha schools founder
A free Afternoon at Hulihee Palace is scheduled for 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday to remember the late Princess Bernice Pauahi. Presenting hula and serenade by the Merrie Monarchs, the event is part of a yearlong series that honors Hawaii’s past monarchs and historical figures. Donations are appreciated. Bring a beach mat or chair as seating won’t be provided.
Princess Bernice Pauahi is most well known as the benefactress of Kamehameha Schools. A great-granddaughter of Kamehameha I, she came of age during the Victorian Era. She was well liked and very private. When her cousin, Kamehameha V, chose her as his successor in 1872, she declined. Her refusal ended the Kamehameha Dynasty.
The palace is open for tours. Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, with the exception of the palace being open from 1 to 4 p.m. the Monday following the monthly Kokua Kailua Village Stroll. Palace admission for a self-guided tour is $8 for adults, $6 for kama’aina, military and seniors, and $1 for keiki 18 years and under. Docent-guided tours are available upon request.

AT&T names new Hawaii manager
AT&T is welcoming Mike Maxwell to oversee business in Hawaii. Maxwell will manage more than 315 employees, 12 AT&T-owned retail locations and 14 national retail partners and authorized resellers throughout the Hawaiian Islands.
Maxwell currently serves as vice president and general manager of AT&T’s mobility operations in the Pacific Northwest market, which consists of Hawaii, Washington, Oregon, Northern Idaho and Alaska. As the leader of the AT&T Mobility team in the Pacific Northwest, Maxwell oversees all operations including marketing, sales, network building and customer service. Maxwell has been a member of the AT&T family of companies since 1992 and was formerly the vice president of sales with AT&T Wireless.
