The second annual Special Movie Night in honor of Korean War veterans and families was held Monday at the Doris Duke theater. The film appropriately was “Ode to My Father,” which starts with the Korean War to modern-day Korea. The film is the second most watched film in the history of Korean Cinema with more than 14 million tickets sold. The Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Honolulu, KBFD and the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs worked together to make this annual event happen. In attendance were Korean Consulate General Mr. and Mrs. Walter Paik and first lady Dawn Ige.
Hawaii Gov. David Ige and his wife visited South Korea in early November for the first time. They visited the Korean War Memorial of Korea to honor Hawaii residents who took part in the “Forgotten War.” Paik gave mention to the many Korean War veterans of the appreciation of their service during the Korean War and the strong alliance between the U.S. and South Korea has help the modernization of South Korea to become the 10th largest economy in the world.
