WHEA offers campus tours
West Hawaii Explorations Academy is offering tours of its campus.
Campus tours are designed for adults and families usually consisting of fewer than 20 people. Tours are led by high school students. Campus tours will familiarize visitors with the projects that WHEA students are engaged in. The tour takes about 30 minutes.
Aloha Kai tours are for organized school groups and their chaperones usually consisting of more than 20 people. Visitors are led in small groups to each of the tour stations where a high school student will share about that particular project. Projects may include aquaponics, hydroponics, shark tank, reef tank, touch tank, octopus tank, deep sea, fish training and 3D printer. The tours are approximately 45 minutes.
West Hawaii Explorations Academy is a public charter school serving students in grades 6 through 12. WHEA exists to provide learning opportunities through integrative, hands-on, self-selected projects related to authentic real world problems. The school has provided tours for more than 25,0000 visitors in the past 10 years.

VFW schedule released
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 12112 behind Kona Locksmith off Kaiwi Street has several events planned this week.
Thursday night football will commence at 3 p.m. with free light pupu provided.
Onion burgers with salad and dessert will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday for $5.
The doors open for football at 10 a.m. Sunday and at 2 p.m. Monday. Fans should bring pupu to share.

Kona Stories book clubs planned
The Kona Stories fiction group meets at 6:30 Tuesday to discuss “In the Time of the Butterflies” by Julia Alvarez.
The travel group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 15 to talk about “What I was doing while you were Breeding” by Kristin Newman.
Groups are free if books are purchased at Kona Stories. Otherwise, a $5 donation is requested. Attendees should bring a pupu or drink to share and come prepared to discuss the books. The store is in Keauhou Shopping Center.
