Parker School awarded in exercise challenge
More than 4,000 students, families and school staff at 25 schools in Hawaii recently participated in the semiannual Fire Up Your Feet Fall Activity Challenge, competing to win cash prizes and support physical activity and wellness programs at their school. The awardees on Oahu, Maui, Kauai and Hawaii Island earned a combined $5,350 to fund the purchase of physical activity and sports equipment or support wellness initiatives on campus.
Using the Fire Up Your Feet online activity tracker, participating schools logged more than 1,546,954 minutes of physical activity such as walking, biking, jogging and surfing, over the course of one month. Prizes were awarded in several categories, including most overall participation, highest weekly activity tracking numbers, most bicycling and most walking.
On Hawaii Island, Parker School was awarded $1,000.
Through the Fire Up Your Feet program, Kaiser Permanente and Safe Routes to School have awarded more than $31,000 to participating schools in Hawaii and $370,000 nationwide.
