The Volcano Village Artists Hui will host its 29th annual Art Studio Tour and Sale over Thanksgiving weekend, Friday through Sunday. The public can meet the artists in their studios, and see artwork in a wide variety of media on display. There will be six open studios and galleries to visit, all located in the heart of Volcano Village.
The Volcano Village Artists Hui will host its 29th annual Art Studio Tour and Sale over Thanksgiving weekend, Friday through Sunday. The public can meet the artists in their studios, and see artwork in a wide variety of media on display. There will be six open studios and galleries to visit, all located in the heart of Volcano Village.
Hui members participating in the tour include Erik Wold (high-fired function pottery), Ira Ono (fine art, gifts), Misato and Michael Mortara (hand-blown art glass), Zeke Israel (raku, jewelry and cards), Emily Herb (pottery and sculptural clay vessels), Mary Goodrich (photography), Pam Barton (fiber work and more), Margaret Barnaby (woodblock prints) and Lisa Louise Adams (quilts, paintings, pottery and books), along with guest artists Randy Sutton (raku pottery), Scott Mitchell (ethnic and contemporary jewelry) and Charlotte Forbes Perry (ceramic tiles and stained glass).
This year, the Niaulani Campus of the Volcano Art Center will be one of the stops on the tour. Hui members Elizabeth Miller (metal repousse, paintings, sculpture) and Cynee Gillette-Wenner (ethnic textiles and fine vintage kimonos) will display their work at this location, as well as guest artist Tim Freeman (pit-fired volcano landscape vessels).
The Volcano Art Center’s annual Programs Preview Exhibit will also be on display at the Niaulani Campus. This exhibit features works by artists who will be offering classes and workshops at the center in 2016. Also previewed are artists who will have exhibits at VAC’s Gallery in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park in the upcoming year including the Volcano Village Artists Hui’s exhibit titled “Sightlines” at the VAC Gallery from Feb. 13 to March 30.
Hours for the Thanksgiving weekend studio tour are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. A drawing for pieces contributed by each of the artists will be held on the final day of the tour.
