Army officials are opening several training areas at Pohakuloa Training Area for bird hunting Saturday and Sunday. The Humuula Unit (training areas 1-4) and the Keamuku Maneuver Area will be open for shotgun hunting of birds only, from 5 a.m.
Army officials are opening several training areas at Pohakuloa Training Area for bird hunting Saturday and Sunday. The Humuula Unit (training areas 1-4) and the Keamuku Maneuver Area will be open for shotgun hunting of birds only, from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m.
All hunters must check in and out at one of the new Army check-in stations located at the following locations:
— Old Saddle Road gate, across from the Mauna Kea State Park entrance
— Mile marker 49.5 gate on Daniel K. Inouye Highway, approximately one and a half miles from Mamalahoa Highway on the left
— Gate 10 near mile marker 53 on Old Saddle Road, one mile from Mamalahoa Highway
Checkout time is no later than 7 p.m. each day. Hunting passes will be provided at check-in stations beginning Friday after 5 p.m. Use of shotgun slugs is not permitted.
Access to training areas is by foot only. Hunters should review the hunting pass for a list of designated parking areas.
