Freezing rain is forecast for the Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea summits Thursday and Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Honolulu. A winter weather advisory has been posted through noon Friday.

Forecasters expect an area of moisture moving in from the southeast to bring freezing rain to summit areas above 12,500 feet in elevation. Less than 1/4 inch of freezing rain is forecast.

Temperatures at the summit are expected to in the upper 20s to lower 30s at night. Expect southeast winds of 10 to 20 mph.

Visibility could be reduced to less than 1 mile at times. Forecasters also cautioned of icy roadways.
