HONOLULU (AP) — Las Vegas-based Allegiant Air has announced it will no longer provide service between the U.S. mainland and Hawaii.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports (https://bit.ly/1MAJVqa ) the company said Tuesday that service in Hawaii will end in August due to rising competition and higher costs for Boeing 757s, which are used on the routes.
Allegiant entered the Hawaii market in June 2012. At one point, the company served the islands from 10 mainland cities before only offering flights to Honolulu from Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
The company says it is looking to relocate the 46 employees affected by the plan.
