The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 12112 is located behind Kona Locksmith off Kaiwi Street in Kailua-Kona.
The following events are planned:
Thursday Night Football at 3 p.m. with free light pupu provided.
The Friday $5 dinner will be pizza with salad and dessert from 5 to 7 p.m. The public is invited.
VFW Auxiliary meets at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
The doors open for football at 10 Sunday. Bring pupu to share.
The post will be open at 2 p.m. Monday for football.
The Post will provide a free traditional dinner on Thanksgiving Day starting at 1 p.m.

Dengue fever meeting for farm workers planned
This Friday, Comunidad Latina de Hawaii along with state Department of Health will hold a community meeting regarding dengue fever in Spanish and English for the farm worker community in South Kona. The meeting is scheduled for 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Konawaena High School cafeteria.
Elks announces Thanksgiving dinner
Kona Elks Auxiliary, Makoa Wahines O’Kona, will host its annual pre-Thanksgiving dinner at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. The meal will feature turkey with all the usual trimmings. Music for listening and dancing will be provided by Bill Nordstrom and his Kona Angels. Cost is $25 and reservations must be in by Friday. Reservations: 329-2616.
Sunday, the Elks will serve an authentic pork or chicken Mexican tamale plate for only $10. Live music from noon to 3 p.m. is by guitarist/vocalist Errol Ishimine. The bar opens at 10:30 a.m. Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Reservations: 329-2616.

Surfing documentary segment to be screened
Kona Boys and More Than Sports presents a screening of a 10-minute segment of “Time Well Spent,” a surf documentary about change featuring local surfer Kross Brodersen. This is a fundraiser to benefit four young men coming from four different countries. Together, they will journey to Panama to surf and give back to the local community. All proceeds will go toward the trip to Panama.
The fundraising including Brodersen’s portion of the film, along with live music, vendors, silent auction and prizes, is scheduled for 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. Friday at Kona Beach Plaza, 75-159 Lunapule Road, Kailua-Kona. Entrance fee is $5.

Poinsettia sale scheduled Nov. 29
The Kona Business and Professional Women’s annual poinsettia sale date is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29 at Hale Halawai. The 6- and 8-inch pots and 2-gallon pots will include a variety of colors of reds, pinks and whites. This yearly event raises money for the club’s high school scholarship gifting as well as its “Grant for Success” re-entry into the work field gifting. There will also be offered crafts and local flavored jams.
The club is accepting advance orders in red and marble white flowers in 6-, 8- and 10-inch diameter pots. Preorders are due Friday.
