Beginning this weekend, new check-in stations will be used for all hunting activity at Pohakuloa Training Area, and are intended to make the check-in/check-out process more convenient and accessible to hunters traveling from Hilo, Kona and Waimea.
New PTA check-in stations are at the following locations:
— Old Saddle Road Gate, across from the Mauna Kea Park entrance
— Mile marker 49.5 gate on Daniel K. Inouye Highway, approximately one-and-a-half miles from Mamalahoa Highway on the left
— Gate 10 near mile marker 53 on Old Saddle Road, one mile from Mamalahoa Highway
The Keamuku Maneuver Area will be open for shotgun hunting of birds only from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Use of shotgun slugs is not permitted.
Hunting passes will be provided at check-in stations beginning Friday after 5 p.m. Checkout time is no later than 7 p.m. each day. Hunters should use the same station for checking in and out. Hunter check-in for PTA is no longer available at state check-in stations.
Hunter access to Keamuku Maneuver Area is by foot only from Old Saddle Road at gates 2, 3, 4, 7 and 10; Mamalahoa Highway at gates 11, 13, 14, 17, and the Old Corral (mile marker 9); and from the Daniel K. Inouye Highway at the 45.7 and 49.5 mile marker gates. Parking is available at all locations.
Unless otherwise specified, all bird hunting activity at PTA follows state of Hawaii regulations.
