A high surf advisory remains posted for east-facing shores of the Big Island through Sunday afternoon.
Wave heights of 7 to 10 feet are forecast along east-facing shores of the island’s northern, eastern and southern coasts through 6 p.m. Sunday, the National Weather Service said. The surf is being fueled by an east swell and strong trade winds.
The service categorized the surf impact as “moderate,” reminding the public to expect strong breaking waves, shore break and strong longshore and rip currents that can make swimming dangerous. Beachgoers, swimmers and surfers should heed all advice given by lifeguards.
