Swiss couple Ursula Hesse on piano and harpsichord, and Roland Maurer, oboe and bassoon, founded Ohrlando’s Chamber Ensemble two years ago and started a series of chamber music concerts with performances in Kona, Kealakekua and Waimea.
The ensemble will open its third series with a program dedicated to the romantic period. David Turner, clarinet, will join the group for the first time. Turner is a Kona resident and principal clarinet of the Kamuela Philharmonic Orchestra.
Like in many previous concerts, Ohrlando will perform works from lesser known composers like Edouard Desteney, Gordon Philips and Georg Friedrich Fuchs. The program will also include an “Opera Fantasy” by clarinet virtuoso Hyacinthe Klose, based on tunes from Vincenzo Bellini’s “Sonnambula” and a “Concert Piece” by Felix Mendelssohn.
Other concerts are planned for 4 p.m. Nov. 22 at a private residence in Kailua-Kona and at 5 p.m. Nov. 28 at the Kahilu Theater gallery in Waimea.
Admission is free. A $15 per person donation is suggested.
