Among the field of 50,235 runners who started the New York City Marathon last weekend, a small contingent of Hawaii athletes represented the Aloha State at one of the world’s most prestigious athletic events.
According to a list compiled by the Associated Press, Mililani’s David Eagar led the field of 36 Hawaii finishers with a time of 2 hours 55 minutes and 23 seconds. Kevin Lynch, of Waimea, was the first Big Island resident to make it across the historic finishing tape with a time of 04:31:20. Katie Vanes (4:53:01), Harvey Nakasone (5:31:25) and Hope Soo (6:19:52) were the other Hawaii Island athletes to finish the marathon.
All 50 states and 125 countries were represented at the NYC Marathon.
