State officials say lacerations a man received on his right ankle while swimming near the beach are consistent with a shark bite.
He was swimming about 100 yards off the beach Tuesday when the shark bit him. Officials were told he was using swim fins and that splashing from fins is known to attract sharks.
Warning signs were posted at the beach on Wednesday. If confirmed as a shark bite, the attack would be Hawaii’s eighth confirmed shark encounter of 2015.
