HONOLULU (AP) — U.S. Rep. Mark Takai says he will have surgery to remove a small cancerous tumor in his pancreas next week.
Takai said in a statement Tuesday the procedure will be performed at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. The 48-year-old says the tumor is small and isolated. He’s thankful his prognosis is good because the tumor was detected early.
The Democrat representing urban Honolulu said last week doctors conducted tests after hearing he had been suffering from stomach pains and discomfort for several weeks.
The surgery is scheduled for next Tuesday.
Takai says he and his family are overwhelmed by the outpouring of love, support and prayers for them. He asks that people to continue to pray and support them and respect their privacy.
