Registration is at 7 a.m. There will also be food, prizes, a raffle and music. The event celebrates the life of Beanie Heen — a paddler, coach, father and friend.

Na Poki’i golf tournament
Na Poki’i is sponsoring a golf tournament to raise funds for its community mission, part of which is to provide scholarships for students from the Kohala district. The tournament will be on Nov. 14 at the Waikoloa Village Golf Course. Shotgun start at 8 a.m., registration from 6:30 a.m.
Format is a two-person shamble, mulligans for sale, handicaps based on 80 percent of listed handicap.
Entry fee is $200 per team, two man teams ($100 per person).

2nd annual Wildcat Golf Challenge
The Club at Hokulia will host the Wildcat Golf Challenge on Nov. 16.
The two best ball of four format with a shotgun start costs $250 per golfer to enter. Entry fee includes a cart and a gift for all golfers.
For a chance to be entered into a drawing for free entry into the tournament, cut out the ad in West Hawaii Today and mail it to the school at: 81-1043 Konawaena School Road, Kealakekua, HI 96750. The drawing will be on Nov. 13 and please include name and contact phone number.
The event will benefit the interscholastic athletics program at Konawaena High School. Space is limited and advance reservations can be made by calling the Athletic Office at Konawaena at 323-4500.
Konawaena winter sports meeting
Konawaena High School will host their winter sports parents meeting on Nov. 4 at the high school cafeteria at 6:30 p.m.
All parents of students planning to participate in a winter sport are asked to attend the meeting. If you have attended the fall sports meeting it is not necessary to attend.
To participate in a winter sport a student must have a current physical exam and a parental consent form on file in the athletic trainers office.
Jackie Rey’s seeking kupuna players
Jackie Rey’s kupuna softball team is seeking new players for the upcoming season 2016.
An open tryout will be held on Nov. 18 at 8:30 a.m. at the Old Kona Airport Park field near the tennis courts. Players must be a minimum of 60 years of age. Players 55-60 might be considered.

6th annual 5K Run for Literacy in Waikoloa
The 6th annual 5K Run/Walk for Literacy will be held Nov. 14 in Waikoloa. The race starts at 7:30 a.m.
This event will start/finish near the playground end of Waikoloa Elementary/Middle School complex. Entry fee which includes a commemorative t-shirt is $20 for adults, $10 for 12 and under, keiki in strollers are free. Registration is at 7:00 – 7:30 a.m.

Hawaii punter lands on watch list
University of Hawaii junior punter and place kicker Rigoberto Sanchez has made waves at his position this season on the national stage and has garnered a pair of recent honors in recognition of his efforts for the Rainbow Warriors this season.
Late last week, Sanchez was listed among the candidates for the Ray Guy Award, given out annually to the top collegiate punter of the year and to be distributed at The Home Depot College Football Awards Show on December 10.
Sanchez drew notice for his performance last week in the loss to Air Force, earning Ray Guy Award Player of the Week nationally. Sanchez had a total of seven punts and 364 yards against the Falcons. He averaged 52 yards per punt with four punts marked inside the 20-yard line and no touchbacks His 73-yard fourth quarter punt ranked in a tie for fifth-longest in program history.
