Dengue? DOH should be more concerned with spraying

With regard to the state Department of Health and dengue fever: Am I the only one who sees a certain disconnect in the logic of spraying pesticides on specific areas, and not telling the population where those areas are? Personally, I’m more worried about being exposed to aerial pesticides than dengue fever, and feel it’s a grave disservice of the health department to not notify the public where and when they plan to spray.

Since the Department of Health has been quoted with commenting on how they have to get on top of this right away, that implies spraying will commence right away. But sometimes the cure can be worse than the disease.

Aloha spirit alive and well at Lava Lava Beach

Mahalo to the man at Lava Lava Beach for returning my father’s lost wallet on Friday, Oct. 30. On the last day of my parents visit, we planned to spend the day with family at Lava Lava Beach, however panic set in when my father realized he lost his wallet. Thanks to an honest man who found the wallet and gave it to two Waikoloa groundskeepers. Going above and beyond, the groundskeepers were comparing faces of the beachgoers from the driver’s license to find the owner. When my father returned to the beach after re-tracing his steps, he couldn’t find his wallet and was convinced it was lost.

The groundskeepers watched my father return to the beach and realized he was the wallet’s owner, as they approached my father, he asked them if they happened to find a man’s wallet. The groundskeepers said, “Yes” and explained a local man who comes to the beach on a regular basis found it and gave it to them. My father and our family is forever grateful for the return of the wallet.

To the man who found my father’s wallet and to the two groundskeepers who returned it to my father: Mahalo nui loa.
