Better Choices, Better Health meets from 1 to 3:30 p.m. every Tuesday in November and continues Dec. 1 and 8 to complete this six-part series. Attendance at all six sessions is encouraged. Advance registration is required. Call Katherine at 430-7188.
Recovering Your Body after Breast Cancer Surgery meets from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Nov. 4, 11 and 18 with Judith Aston and Beth Williams. These classes will help women reclaim their body’s resiliency by supporting post-surgery recovery through stretches designed to neutralize compensations that restrict movement and strength. How to Thrive During the Holidays and Beyond meets from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday with Vivienne Aronowitz, registered dietician and certified diabetes educator.

Strategies to Improve Your Gut Microbiome/Fermentation Workshop is held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday with Dr. Hanalei Roberts, naturopathic physician. Roberts will discuss some of the latest science and traditional wisdom regarding the health of gut microbiome. In the second hour, a demonstration making lacto-fermented cabbage is planned. The cabbage and tools to make a large sauerkraut batch will be provided. Bring a small wide-mouth canning jar to take some home.
The Causes of Health meets from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday with Jack Ebner. This comprehensive seminar series will empower attendees to improve and control the destiny of their health. Bring materials to take notes.
Parkinson’s and Neuroplasticity Support — Empowerment through Movement meets from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Nov. 9, with Madeline Sofranac. Individuals with Parkinson’s and other neurological challenges, along with their partners or caregivers, are encouraged to attend this session, which is open to all ability levels. Come dressed comfortably.
Food Science and Health 101 — Skillful Dietary Choices meets from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 9.
Invest Your Charity Dollars Wisely meets from 10:30 a.m. to noon Nov. 11. This interactive program will educate participants in how to invest their charity dollars wisely — by looking at life experiences and key people in their lives; where to put charity dollars now, and how to check out and select a charity.
Gurdjieff, the Fourth Way, an Exploration meets from 4 to 5 p.m. Nov. 11 and 25 with Mike Kimball and Steven Rosenblatt, longtime students and group leaders in Gurdjieff’s teachings. These introductory meetings may include a general discussion, readings, a film and more. All are welcome.
You Make Sense to Me, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 11, explores how to make the connections in relationships more meaningful, safe and satisfying. Couples and individuals welcome.

to Hui Laulima
West Hawaii Hui Laulima meets from 10:30 a.m. to noon Friday at the West Hawaii Community Health Center community meeting room on the corner of Kuakini Highway and Hualalai Road.
The hui welcomes state Rep. Cindy Evans for a legislative update. She will also gather concerns and recommendations from West Hawaii service providers.

Kona Orchid Society meeting Friday
The Kona Orchid Society meets Friday at Makua Lani Christian Academy, 74-4966 Kealakaa St. in Kailua Kona. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. A potluck dinner will be served at 6:15. Bring something to share.
The club will be potting young plants of several varieties and will supply the plants, media and pots, along with the names of the plants.
Members are invited to bring a pest-free blooming orchid for show and tell.
An orchid drawing is planned later in the evening.

Parker School offers new program
Parker School has launched a series of coding classes to help prepare its youngest students for the world of science and technology.
All 106 lower school students in K-5 at Parker School are now introduced to the fundamentals of computer science as part of their regular school curriculum.
Several times each month, students in grades 3 through 5 are exposed to new coding curriculum from code.org, a computer science nonprofit. In addition, kindergarten through second grade students receive instruction once per quarter via “buddy teaching” where an older child is paired with and teaches a younger child through coding activities.
Parker School is accepting admission applications in K-12 for the 2016-17 academic year through Feb. 8. An open house for K-12 students will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday and a K-1 preview will be held from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Nov. 11.
